You know you're a photographer when...
📷 You see the world in f-stops, shutter speeds, and ISO.
🌅 You don't see a sunset... you see the perfect golden-hour lighting opportunity.
😂 Someone says, "Your camera takes amazing pictures," and you just smile.
🎯 You know that shooting at f/1.4 doesn't automatically mean both eyes will be sharp.
📸 You've taken 300 photographs just to find that ONE perfect shot.
💡 You can spot bad white balance from across the room.
🔍 You know the difference between sharp and tack sharp.
😎 You'd rather shoot in manual mode than let the camera make your decisions.
📷 You know that a 70–200mm f/2.8 isn't just a lens... it's an investment and a workout!
🔥 NOW HERE'S A QUESTION ONLY PHOTOGRAPHERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO ANSWER:
You're shooting a portrait at:
- ISO 100
- f/2.8
- 1/500 sec
You change your aperture to f/5.6 but want to maintain the EXACT SAME EXPOSURE while keeping ISO at 100.
What should your new shutter speed be? 🤔
🚫 No Google. No calculators. No cheating!
👇 Drop your answer in the comments and let's see who really knows their exposure triangle!

📸 Why Danders Photography Shoots in Manual Mode
Have you ever wondered why professional photographers often take full control of their cameras instead of letting the camera make the decisions?
At Danders Photography, we shoot in Manual Mode because every photograph deserves more than an automatic setting.
Manual Mode gives us complete creative control over aperture, shutter speed and ISO — the three key elements that determine how an image is captured.
🎯 We Control the Exposure
Lighting can change quickly, especially during outdoor sessions. Automatic modes can react differently from one photograph to the next.
By shooting manually, we decide exactly how bright or dark the photograph should be, helping us maintain a consistent look throughout your session.
🌅 We Control the Background
Want that beautiful, softly blurred background that makes you stand out?
By manually selecting the aperture, we can control the depth of field and create the look we want rather than leaving that decision to the camera.
⚡ We Control Motion
A family laughing together, children running through a park, a couple walking hand-in-hand or a bride moving across the dance floor — every situation requires a different approach.
Manual Mode allows us to choose the shutter speed needed to freeze movement or intentionally capture motion creatively.
📷 We Control Image Quality
ISO determines how sensitive the camera is to light. Instead of allowing the camera to automatically increase ISO unnecessarily, we can balance it carefully with aperture and shutter speed.
That helps us capture cleaner, higher-quality photographs while still getting the exposure we want.
🎨 Most Importantly — We Control the Creative Vision
A camera is an incredible tool, but it doesn't know the story we're trying to tell.
It doesn't know which moment matters most.
The photographer does.
Shooting in Manual Mode allows us to make deliberate decisions about light, movement, depth and atmosphere before pressing the shutter.
At Danders Photography, we don't simply point the camera and hope it makes the right decisions.
We create the photograph intentionally.
Because your memories deserve more than AUTO.

💭 ONE QUESTION THAT MIGHT SURPRISE YOU…
We spend so much time thinking about what’s next that sometimes we forget how far we’ve already come.
So here’s today’s question:
If you could go back and give your 18-year-old self just ONE piece of advice, what would you say?
Would you tell yourself to worry less?
Take more chances?
Travel more?
Save your money? 😂
Spend more time with family?
Stop caring what other people think?
Or maybe you'd simply say…
“Everything is going to work out. Just enjoy the ride.”
There are no right or wrong answers. I’d genuinely love to hear yours.

WHO SAYS PHOTOGRAPHY ISN’T EXERCISE? 😂
People think being a photographer is just:
“Stand there… click… click… done!” 📷
Meanwhile, the photographer is:
😂 Squatting like we’re training for the Olympics
🌳 Crawling through bushes because “the angle is better from here”
🏃 Running backwards while yelling, “Keep walking toward me!”
🦆 Ducking, bending and twisting into positions the human body was never designed for
☀️ Fighting the sun
💨 Fighting the wind
🦟 Fighting approximately 4,782 mosquitoes
👨👩👧 Trying to get everyone looking at the camera at the SAME TIME
🐕 Making ridiculous noises because the dog refuses to look at us
📸 Taking 300 photos to get that ONE perfect moment
And then someone asks…
“Can you just Photoshop me a little?” 😂😂
Photography isn't just a job.
It’s cardio, yoga, wildlife survival and therapy… with a camera.

📸 Why Aren’t My Prices as High as Some Other Photographers?
You may have noticed that my photography prices at Danders Photography aren’t as high as some photographers — and there’s a reason for that.
It’s not because I value my work any less.
It’s not because I put less effort into your photographs.
And it certainly isn’t because your memories are worth less.
I simply believe that professional photography should be accessible to more people.
Families have bills. Life is expensive. There are groceries, mortgages, rent, kids, vehicles and a hundred other things competing for your hard-earned money. I understand that spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on photographs simply isn’t realistic for everyone.
But I don’t believe that should mean missing out on beautiful photographs of the people you love.
At Danders Photography, I want to provide professional, personal and meaningful photography at a price that feels fair.
When you book with me, I still bring my professional equipment, experience, creativity and attention to detail. I still spend time preparing for your session, photographing you, selecting your best images and carefully editing them.
I’m not interested in competing to see who can charge the highest price.
I’m interested in creating photographs that make you smile years from now.
My goal is simple:
❤️ Fair prices.
📸 Quality photography.
😊 A relaxed experience.
🖼️ Memories you’ll want to keep.
Affordable doesn’t have to mean low quality.
Sometimes it simply means that the person behind the camera believes great photography should be within reach of everyday people.
That’s what I want Danders Photography to stand for.
Real people. Real moments. Real memories — without an unrealistic price tag.
📍 Proudly serving families, couples and individuals throughout the Niagara Region.

📸 Understanding Aperture: The Secret Behind Beautiful Background Blur
Have you ever taken a photo and wondered how photographers get that beautiful, soft, blurry background while keeping their subject perfectly in focus?
One of the secrets is aperture.
Aperture is the opening inside your camera lens that controls how much light enters the camera. Think of it a little like the pupil of your eye — it opens wider in darker conditions and becomes smaller when there's lots of light.
Aperture is measured in f-stops, such as:
📷 f/1.8 – f/2.8
A wide aperture lets in more light and creates a shallow depth of field. This is fantastic for portraits because it helps separate your subject from the background.
📷 f/4 – f/5.6
A great middle ground. You can still achieve some background blur while keeping more of your subject sharp.
📷 f/8 – f/11
A smaller aperture keeps much more of the scene in focus, making it useful for landscapes, architecture and group photographs.
Here's the part that confuses almost every new photographer:
The smaller the f-number, the wider the aperture.
The larger the f-number, the smaller the aperture.
It sounds backwards at first, but once you start experimenting, it begins to make sense.
For me, aperture isn't simply another camera setting. It's a creative decision.
Sometimes I want the background to disappear into a beautiful blur so that nothing distracts from the person I'm photographing. Other times, I want the surroundings to become part of the story.
That's one of the things I love about photography — two photographers can stand in exactly the same place, photograph the same subject and create completely different images simply through the choices they make.
📸 Photography Challenge
Grab your camera and photograph the same subject at f/2.8, f/5.6 and f/11 without changing your composition.
Then compare the backgrounds.
You'll quickly see just how powerful aperture can be.
What's your favourite aperture to shoot at? Drop it in the comments and tell us why!

Outdoor photography is unpredictable — and that’s part of what makes it so special.
You can choose the perfect location, plan the composition, and check the weather, but sometimes it’s the unexpected moments that create the photograph you remember most. A sudden burst of sunlight, reflections after the rain, a dramatic sky, wildlife appearing out of nowhere, or simply being in the right place at the right time.
🌿 So, let’s start a conversation…
What do YOU enjoy most about outdoor photography?
Do you prefer:
📷 Landscapes and nature
🌅 Sunrises and sunsets
👨👩👧 Outdoor portraits
🐦 Wildlife
🏙️ Urban and street photography
🌧️ Moody weather and dramatic skies
🌸 Flowers and close-up nature photography
And here’s the challenge…
Share one of your favourite outdoor photographs in the comments and tell us the story behind it.
It doesn’t matter whether you used a professional camera, an older camera, or your phone. Great photography isn’t always about the equipment — sometimes it’s simply about noticing something worth remembering.
Let’s inspire each other to get outside, explore somewhere new, and keep creating.
— Danders Photography Community 📸
I was thinking about something today.
Most of us have thousands of photos.
They’re on our phones, computers, tucked away on hard drives, hanging on walls and sitting in old albums.
But imagine you could only keep one.
Which photo would you choose?
For me, this is what makes photography so powerful.
A photograph can look completely ordinary to everyone else…
…but to you, it can mean everything.
It might be someone you miss.
A moment with your children when they were little.
Your wedding day.
A family member laughing.
A pet waiting at the door.
Or just an ordinary afternoon that you didn’t realize would become an important memory.
That’s the strange thing about photography.
We often don't know we're capturing something precious until years later.
So here's my question for you:
❤️ If you could keep only ONE photograph from your entire life, what would it be — and why?
I'd genuinely love to hear the stories behind them.
— Don
